IWF imposes $500,000 fine on Iran

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (MNA) -- The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has fined the Iranian federation $500,000 following several doping offences.
Three Iranian weightlifters were found guilty of using banned substances in the past year. The doping case of Saeid Ali-Hosseini is still open.
“The Budapest-based federation can impose bans or fines on national associations if three or more lifters from the same country commit doping offences in the same year,” IWF legal counsel Monika Ungar was quoted as saying by the Associated Press (AP).
The minimum fine is $50,000 and the shortest ban is for two years.
Anoush Armak, Rashid Sharifi, and Omid Naiij Kenari are the other Iranian lifters who have already failed in their doping tests.
