INQUIRY COMMITTEE URGED TO FOLLOW UP DUADJI`S TESTIMONY
Jakarta, Jan 27 (ANTARA) - The House committee probing the Bank Century bailout case has to examine the written testimony of former police chief detective Commissioner General Susno Duadji, a committee member said.
"I am surprised to read Duadji's written testimony because it contains information that needs to be followed up by the committee," Andi Rahmat, a member of the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee, said at the parliament building here on Wednesday.
He said the written testimony basically contained normal accounts but it also provided information that needed to be further investigated.
According to Andi, the information he meant was about the provisional results of Bareskrim's investigation which mentioned that police had decided not to give priority to the investigation of the Bank Century case because of the political situation at the time.
He said in the last part of the testimony there was a statement saying it was not difficult to investigate the Bank Century bailout case.
"This is an interesting thing that needs to be examined further because the inquiry committee has been working for more than a month but it has not yet succeeded in collecting complete information," said Andi who is a member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the House.
Meanwhile, Inquiry Committee member Anas Urbaningrum said the committee should not add to its burden by attaching too great significance to Duadji's testimony.
"The content of the testimony is a matter in the legal domain so that it should be tackled by the law enforcers such as the police," said Anas who is chairman of the Democrat Party faction in the House.
He said the inquiry committee did not need to follow up the testimony but continue its investigation of the Bank Century case according to its commonly agreed program.
House Deputy Speaker Anis Matta said Susno's testimony was a valuable input for the Bank Century inquiry committee.
"The written testimony can help clarify vital questions in the Bank Century case," he said.***
