Russia, Finland to develop renewable energy sources.
HELSINKI, January 28 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Finland are to sign a
memorandum for cooperation in developing renewable sources of energy on
Thursday as part of a two-day visit to Finland of Russian Energy Minister
Sergei Shmatko, the Finnish government press service told Itar-Tass.
In Helsinki, the Russian minister will meet Finnish Minister of
Economy Mauri Pekkarinen to discuss bilateral energy cooperation.
The memorandum to be signed at this meeting provides for cooperation
between Russia's Chelyabinsk region and the Fortum energy concern, the
biggest in Scandinavia, for a period of 2010-2012. Fortum has been
operating in the Russian market for several years.
Sergei Shmatko will also visit the offices of the Fortum concern and
the ABB Company to get acquainted with advanced Finnish technologies of
energy production and effective energy use.
On Friday, Sergei Shmatko and Mauri Pekkarinen will visit the town of
Lahti where they will attend a meeting of an international expert group on
the future of energy production.
