Moscow, Astana to step up cooperating in fighting intl terrorism
MOSCOW, January 28 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov and Kazakhstan's State Secretary, Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev
met to discuss issues of international and regional security within the
context of the Afghan settlement. The ministers met on the sidelines of
the international conference on Afghanistan in London, Russian diplomats
said on Thursday.
"The ministers confirmed the mood to step up cooperation within the
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Collective Security Treaty
Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEc) and the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). They considered, from common
positions, the building up of joint efforts in fighting international
terrorism and religious extremism, and the provision of security and
stability in the Central Asia region," the diplomats said.
Lavrov and Saudabayev paid special attention to "the OSCE theme in
connection with the beginning of Kazakhstan's chairmanship at this
organization."
