Medvedev to meet Spanish king

MOSCOW, June 19 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev will hold a meeting on Thursday with Spanish King Juan Carlos I who arrived in Moscow on Wednesday on a two-day visit, the presidential press service reported.
These talks will be the first meeting between the Russian head of
state and the Spanish monarch after Medvedev entered the presidential
office.
The leaders of the two states are expected to examine the most
pressing issues of international life along with questions of bilateral relations, above all those, dealing with cooperation between Russia and European Union countries.
Madrid analysts note that the king's trip is made in line with regular consultations by the Spanish head of state with leaders of foreign countries and governments. Incidentally, the monarch's contacts are very frequent. In 2007, he made 15 official and state visits, including to Kazakhstan.
The Spanish monarch, 70, was in Russia the last time on a private
visit in August 2006. Then, he met Vladimir Putin at the latter's Sochi residence. Prior to this, Carlos had been in Russia on five occasions. His first visit was made in 1984 to the Soviet Union. Then, the king came to Russia on a state visit in May 1997 and on private visits in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
In 2007, Spain and Russia marked the 30th anniversary of restoring
diplomatic relations.
