Russia`s fifth-generation combat plane makes first flight
MOSCOW, January 29 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's fifth-generation combat
fighter made its first flight on Friday, Russia 24 TV channel reported
quoting a spokesman of Sukhoi aircraft producer.
It said the successful test flight was carried out in the Far East and
lasted 45 minutes.
Initially the flight was scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed
because of bad weather.
The first Perspective Aircraft Complex for the Front Aviation (PAK FA)
fighter designed by Sukhoi was built at Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft
facility (KNAAPO), which successfully completed pre-flight tests.
Experts say the aircraft is super maneuverable and has 16 missile
carrier units, including eight inside the fuselage. The aircraft is hard
to detect by radars.
The Russian defense ministry plans to begin buying PAK-FA from 2015.
Until then the Air Force will be armed with Su-35 aircraft of 4++
generation.
