Russia confiscates Panamanian fishing vessel

VLADIVOSTOK (Itar-Tass) -- Russia confiscated a Panamanian fishing
vessel for poaching in its territorial waters and fined the shipowner and
the captain.
The Sakhalin Coast Guard Service said the Persis ship of the
Panamanian Dong Nam Corp Company was confiscated upon a ruling of the
Nevelsk city court, which also fined the shipowner for 2.5 million rubles
(over 80 thousand dollars).
The lawyers of the company appealed to a higher court, but the
regional Sakhalin court confirmed the judgment of the first instance court
on Wednesday.
Persis was detained on June 11, 2009, and in September the Nevelsk
city court found its Captain Vladimir Staroverov guilty of poaching and
fined him for 150 thousand rubles (5000 dollars).
