EARTHQUAKE JOLTS TAKENGON, ACEH
Banda Aceh, Indonesia, Jan. 29 (ANTARA) - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Takengon, Central Aceh, on Thursday evening at 11.12 pm Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).
The temblor caused panic among local residents most of whom were already in bed , said Syafrianda, an inhabitant of Takengon, here on Friday.
"We rushed out of the house in panic when the earthquake occurred," she said.
The quake's epicenter was located at 4.82 degrees northern latitude and 96.78 degrees eastern longitude, according to the national meteorological, geophysics and climatology office.
People living in Bener Meriah District also felt the temblor.
The earthquake was the second hitting Aceh Province since early 2010, after the first one measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale which shock Meulaboh, West Aceh District last Friday (Jan. 22).***
