L.BOLD TAKES PART IN INT'L CONFERENCE ON AFGHANISTAN ISSUES
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Defense Minister L.Bold gave speech at international conference that touched upon Afghanistan issues and ended January 28 in London, UK. Speeches also gave British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The Defense Minister said Mongolia appreciates this conference and explained Mongolia's position towards Afghanistan matters and spoke about a participation of the Mongolian peacekeepers in Afghanistan.
During the conference, Bold held official meetings with Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General; Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the NATO Secretary-General; Catherine M.Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU); David Miliband, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the UK; Bernard Kouchner, the France's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs; Guido Westerwelle, the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany; General Stanley A.McChrystal, Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A); Richard Holbrooke, Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan under the Obama administration; and other officials.

The Defense Minister L.Bold met Thursday with Stephen Smith, Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs. The dignitaries exchanged views on the Mongolia-Australia relations and cooperation.
Mr Bold told about a worsening overwintering in Mongolia. "With the aim to help the Mongolian herdsmen to overcome the difficulties, our government has decided to render aid of AUD 1 million," said Mr Smith.
