Iran, Armenia discuss faster implementation of joint agreements

TEHRAN, Jan. 29 (MNA) -- Iran and Armenia have held talks on ways to speed up implemenation of joint agreements and discussed plans to expand economic cooperation in the future.

In a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian in Yerevan on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said cooperation in energy, transportation, and communication will open a new chapter in bilateral relationship.

Mottaki had travelled Yerevan on Tuesday to take part in the 9th Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Commission.

Cutting down on the customs bureaucracy will help expand trade exchanges between the two neighbors, Mottaki suggested.

He went on to say that Iran’s private sector is ready to help Armenia with its infrastructure projects such as constructing roads, railways, pipelines, and power plants.

Sargsian said that Armenia attaches great importance to the agreements signed between the two countries, adding the implementation of these agreements will help promote ties.

He went on to say that Armenia prioritizes implementing railway projects and expressed hope that the pipeline and road projects will begin this year.

Yerevan is also interested to develop cooperation on agriculture and livestock industry with Iran, he added.
