TURKEY PROVIDING 50 PACKAGES OF SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDONESIAN STUDENTS

Jakarta, Feb 1 (ANTARA) - Turkey is providing 50 packages of scholarships for Indonesian students in the 2010-2011 period, its embassy in Jakarta said.

The figure represented a ten-fold increase compared to five years ago, the embassy said in a press statement issued on Monday.

The scholarships are for 10 students to study Turkish language, 30 students to pursue bachelor degrees and 10 students to pursue master/doctorate degrees, it said.

Indonesia is the sixth biggest among 120 countries receiving scholarships from the Turkish government, it said.

Relations between Indonesia and Turkey in the political, economic, cultural and educational fields have been growing rapidly in the past few years.

The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding in the educational sector in January 2009 when Turkish Education Minister Huseyin Celik paid a five-day visit to Indonesia.
