CIS Economic Council to discuss transport, food security
Moscow, June 20 (Itar-Tass) -- The CIS Economic Council will meet in 38th session in Moscow on Friday to focus on cooperation in transport and on measures to better food security.
"On the agenda there is a draft of priority guidelines for cooperation
in transport extending till 2020. It was prepared by a special working
group at the decision of the CIS supreme bodies, which identified
transport as a key sphere of cooperation this year," a source at the CIS
Executive Committee told Itar-Tass.
According to the source, the CIS Economic Council will also look into
a package of joint measures for enhancing the food security of the CIS
member-states, based on proposals by Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.
"In the context of the current price surges in the world food market
this issue is very topical," he said.
According to a CIS Executive Committee representative, chairman of the
working group for the strategy of CIS economic development till 2020,
Ukraine's Deputy Economic Minister Valery Muntiyan, will make a report.
The source recalled that at last Tuesday's Kazakh-Russian business forum
in Astana CIS Executive Committee chief Sergei Lebedev said "the work on
the project is close to completion."
On the agenda of Friday's session there are 15 issues. Ukraine will
brief the partners on its proposals for drafting an inter-state program
for the CIS countries innovative cooperation till 2020, and Kazakhstan, on
amendments to the list of conditions and manufacturing and processing
operations crucial to identifying commodities' country of origin.
