KHABAROVSK, February 2 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian president's envoy to
the Far Eastern federal district, Viktor Ishayev, and the chief executive
officer of South Korea's state-run gas corporation Kogas, Choo Kangsoo,
have discussed cooperation in the gas sector.
The strategy for development of the Far East until 2025 approved by
the Russian government "allows to make long-term plans and we are ready to
discuss the issue of long-term cooperation," Ishayev said.
He proposed Kogas to buy shares of the Khabarovsk-based company
Kraigaz and a gas pipeline section running across the territory of the Far
East.
"This is a very advantageous and lucrative proposal," Choo Kangsoo
said. "We are ready to consider any proposals that will help to boost our
participation in the Far East."
South Korea that imports 2 billion cubic meters of gas plans to
increase gas imports to 200 billion cubic meters and to step up
cooperation with gas giant Gazprom and Russian regions.
"Our cooperation is comprehensive and spreads on many spheres," Choo
Kangsoo said adding that it includes the construction of a LNG plant and a
chemical plant as well as of pipelines on the Russian territory.
Choo Kangsoo said the Korean corporation plans to participate in the
project on gas equipment installation in Vladivostok and had already
discussed this issue with the Primorsky territory governor.
South Korea's company plans to invest into exploration and development
of gas condensate fields in Yakutia.
Yakutia's government also invited Kogas to participate in the
construction of a chemical complex between the port of Vanino and the port
of Sovetskaya Gavan.
Kogas has already opened its subsidiary Kogas-Vostok in the Khabarovsk
territory.
