Iran focusing on Asian film market

TEHRAN, Feb. 2 (MNA) -- Manager of the 13th Iranian International Market for Films and TV Programs Amir Esfandiari regards the Asian film market as important for Iran’s cinema.

Esfandiari, also director of the International Department of the Farabi Cinematic Foundation, said that Iran needs to exchange films with Asian countries to meet their cultural needs.

Iran’s film market, which wraps up on Thursday, is currently underway during the 28th edition of Fajr Film Festival at Milad Tower where movies are screened for the press and artists.

“The major difference between this edition and previous ones is that all side section programs related to the festival are in one location making it easier for visitors to visit the film market,” Esfandiari said.

“This year, we did our best to provide equipment for Iranian and foreign participants to be able to access the internet easily, to screen their movies at their stands, and to exchange films and information with visitors,” he stated.

Most foreign participants come from Asian countries, but there are also companies from Italy, France and England. “We mainly focused on participation of Asian countries, and, of course, some European companies found it difficult to come to Iran because of the current situation. I believe the Asian market is more important to us since not only is it good for our country but also helps Asian countries meet their cultural needs.

“We had also received several requests from other countries like Brazil but they did not act in time and lost the opportunity to attend the market,” he added.

All participating countries expect to have adequate facilities to be able to sell and exchange their products; if we can’t provide this, they certainly will not be willing to attend the market next year, he concluded.
