Iran reacts to deployment of anti-missile weapons in Persian Gulf

TEHRAN, Feb. 2 (MNA) – Iran on Tuesday called the U.S. deployment of anti-missile weapons systems in the Persian Gulf nations as “ineffective”, insisting that Tehran enjoys good relationship with Arab states in the Persian Gulf region.
“We consider any move by extra-regional countries in the Persian Gulf as ineffective,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told a regular news briefing. “We have observed the results of these moves before.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s relationship with regional countries is close, strategic… and we consider regional congruity for the peace, stability and the development of region as a realistic approach,” Mehmanparast noted.
According to the Associated Press, the United States has quietly increased the capability of land-based Patriot defensive missiles in several Persian Gulf nations, and one military official said the Navy is beefing up the presence of ships capable of knocking down hostile missiles in flight.
