MALAYSIAN SERVICES SECTOR EYES FURTHER INROADS IN GCC AND BEYOND

By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- The third Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE), scheduled for April 13, will showcase the world-class capabilities of 131 Malaysian companies, with the highlight being the state-of-the-art green technology.

Malaysia's Trade Consul in Dubai Dzulkifli Mahmud said MSE 2010 would
present a judicious mix of services pertinent to the Gulf Cooperation Council
(GCC), West Asia, Africa and Central Asia.

During the three-day show at the Dubai International Convention and
Exhibition Centre, visitors will be updated on Malaysia's professional services;
energy and power generation; oil and gas; and construction.

Other service clusters include information communication technology (ICT);
healthcare; franchising; education and specialised training; and financial
services.

Dzulkifli said: "Malaysian services are a significant component of social
and infrastructure development across the world.

"Increasing consciousness on quality, efficiency and cost has enabled
Malaysia to make further inroads into the services export market."

A specially designated "Eco Oasis" at the MSE exhibition will display the
accomplishments and services of Malaysian companies in environmental
conservation.

Dzulkifli described the annual event, organised by the Malaysia External
Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), as a major driver of Malaysia-GCC
engagement in the services sector.

"The GCC remains a major focus area for Malaysia as we continue to enhance
our internationally-renowned services expertise, offering cutting-edge
solutions, especially in green technology," he said.

Dzulkifli added the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the development outlook
articulated by Abu Dhabi and Dubai especially offered immense long-term
prospects for Malaysian services.

"Sharing our expertise with these promising, high growth markets will be
mutually beneficial," he noted.

Dzulkifli said landmark initiatives such as the new Doha International
Airport in Qatar, Al-Reem Island Project and Formula 1 circuit in Abu Dhabi,
Meydan Racecourse Dubai and the Jizan Economic City in Saudi Arabia were
testimony to the pivotal role of the Malaysian services sector in the
fast-expanding GCC infrastructure.

Nearly 120 Malaysian companies involved mainly in trading, construction and
architecture are operating in the UAE alone.

Besides UAE, the GCC comprises Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and
Qatar.

The Malaysia Services Forum, to be hosted on the opening day of MSE 2010,
will offer participants an overview of the Malaysian expertise in selected
areas such as professional services, ICT and healthcare.

The second MSE, held in March 2009, attracted 4,000 trade visitors and
witnessed a high level of interest from GCC businesses as well as human
resource development professionals.

A high-level UAE delegation led by Foreign Trade Minister Sheikha Lubna Al
Qassimi visited Malaysia in November 2009 and agreed to further pursue
opportunities for bilateral exchanges.
