Iran’s scientific achievements are a result of freedom of thought

TEHRAN, Feb. 3 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that Iran’s scientific achievements are the result of the freedom of thought in the country and emphasized the need for political vibrancy at universities.
“If universities are completely depoliticized, they will be devoid of vitality and vibrancy,” but on the other hand, universities should not be allowed to become places that political groups can take advantage of, he said here on Tuesday in a meeting with University of Tehran professors and administrators.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that Iran’s major scientific achievements of the past three decades are the result of freedom of thought.
If the monarchy had continued, the country would not have made such achievements because it is not possible to make scientific progress under dictatorial regimes that are dependent on foreigners, the Supreme Leader noted.
He criticized the monarchy for distancing university professors and students from religion and spirituality and said increasing students’ understanding of religion guarantees the happiness of the people.
