PRESIDENT TO CLOSE MEDIUM-TERM DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING



Cipanas, Feb 3 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to close a working meeting on the government's medium-term national development plan (RPJMN) for the 2010-2014 period at the Cipanas State Palace in West Java on Wednesday afternoon.

Before closing the the two-day meeting with cabinet ministers and the country's 33 governors, the president will listen to reports from six working groups who met on Tuesday to discuss a number of problems.

The participants of the meeting were divided into six working groups : spatial planning including agrarian issues; food resilience from production to distribution; energy, especially ensuring adequate supply; infrastructure like roads and bridges aiming at national connectivity; social empowerment programs like education, public health and the informal economy; and bureaucratic reform, law enforcement, democracy and security.

President Yudhoyono in his opening speech on Tuesday said the meeting was aimed at synchronizing and encouraging synergy at regional and central government development plans.

The president expressed hope that the meeting would lead to solutions to a number of essential problems, and there would be no more blame games between central and regional administrations, and that the meeting would bring concrete results to improve the prosperity of the people.

"What we will be doing today is finalizing the process we started at the national gathering and the national summit to make sure that the five-year development plan is on the right track," President Yudhoyono said in his opening speech on Tuesday.

The head of state was on Wednesday scheduled to listen to the working report from the six working groups at 2 in the afternoon.

Before closing the meeting the president would hand RPJMN 2010-2014 guide books to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Joko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono, National Disaster Mitigation Board chairman Syamsul Maarif, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, North Sumatra Governor Syamsul Arifin, West Java Governor Akhmad Heryawan, Central Kalimantan Governor Teras Narang, North Sulawesi Governor Sarundajang, and Papua Governor Barnabas Suebu.
