Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ As of today, 64 soums of Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Bayan-Olgii, Gobi-Altai, Dundgobi, Ovorkhangai, Omnogobi, Zavkhan, Tov, Khovd, Khovsgol and Uvs aimags have entered the disaster level due to extreme cold. The zud is staying in 68 soums, the overwintering might worsen in 71 soums and two villages. The overwintering is normal in 27 soums of four aimags.
A working group led by T.Badral, deputy head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), worked in western eights aimags. Nowadays situation in these provinces was introduced at a meeting of the State Emergency Commission held Tuesday. The group worked in 35 soums of Ovorkhangai, Gobi-Altai, Khovd, Bayan-Olgii, Uvs, Zavkhan and Khovsgol aimags. Rates of the zud in these aimags were fixed through summer conditions of the previous year, preparedness for the overwintering, size of snow, weather, number of livestock perished, difficulties in delivering medical service, heat supply in local organizations, sufficiency of consumer goods and fuel.
As of February 1, 2010, one million and 700 thousand livestock perished nationwide because of the zud. After the report by the working group, a Deputy Premier and head of the State Emergency Commission M.Enkhbold gave orders to related Ministries, organizations and aimags.
He said an attention must be paid to herdsmen health, medical service, foods and warm clothes provision, assistance to herdsmen in selling meat in settlements and the city and to measures for providing the herdsmen with livestock.
The authorities were also ordered to provide power plants of 12 aimags with coal reserves, study an opportunity to grant herdsmen in the first turn MNT 70 thousand from the Human Development Fund, hold negotiations with authorities of commercial banks on prolonging the repayment and to protect rare animals.
