Turkmenistan invites French companies to its oil and gas fields.

ASHGABAT, February 3 (Itar-Tass) - President of Turkmenistan
Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov has invited French companies to take part in
the development of its oil and gas deposits. Addressing a Turkmen- French
business forum held in Paris on Tuesday, the Turkmen president said that
Turkmenistan has more than 150 deposits that should be developed. The
business forum was held in the framework of a first official visit paid to
France by the Turkmen leader.
Addressing the forum, the Turkmen president described as
"strategically important" projects on prospecting for and development of
hydrocarbon resources, including perspective blocks in the Turkmen sector
of the Caspian Sea, the realization of large-scale projects in the
infrastructure and the fuel and energy sector, deliveries of oil and gas
prospecting equipment, modernization of processing facilities and
employment of the latest technologies.
President Berdimuhammedov said that the overall hydrocarbon resources
in Turkmenistan were assessed at more than 45 billion tons of ideal fuel.
Recently, the Turkmenistan-China trans-national gas pipeline with a
capacity of 40 billion cubic meters and a new branch of a gas pipeline
directed to neighboring Iran have been commissioned. Possibilities have
been studied for directing the Turkmen fuels to world markets and in other
directions, the Turkmen president said.
In accordance with the program of the development of the fuel and
energy sector by the year 2030 gas production will be increased to 250
billion cubic meters and oil production - to 110 million tons per year,
the president said. Among the other priorities he mentioned the chemical
industry, airport and sea port construction, production of construction
materials and creation of a national tourist zone on the Caspian Sea.
At present, there are 17 enterprises with the participation of the
French capital registered in Turkmenistan, and a total of 68 investment
projects are underway in the country.
