SUSNO: POLICE DID NOT PRIORITIZE BANK CENTURY BAILOUT

Jakarta, Feb 3 (ANTARA) - Former national police chief detective Commissioner General Susno Duadji said when he was still in charge of criminal investigations, the police did not prioritize the Bank Century bailout because it was not connected with money deposited by the bank's customers.

He told newsmen at the National Police Headquarters here on Wednesday when he was head of the Criminal Investigation Department, police investigators only handled two cases relating to Bank Century, namely the money the bank's customers had invested in PT Antaboga Delta Sekuritas and violations of banking laws.

"The Antaboga case and the banking law breaches were prioritized because they were directly connected with customers' funds," he said.

The bailout case was not prioritized because it was not connected with customers' funds.

He said he did not know whether, after he had resigned as head of the National Plice's criminal invesigation department, the police had also begun investigating the Bank Cenntury bailout case.

"I am no longer the National Police's chief detective. I have been replaced by Pak Ito. So whether or not the police now prioritize the Bank Century bailout case, you'd better ask him," he sid.

"Pak Ito" refers to Commissioner General Ito Sumardi, the present chief of the National Police's criminal invesigation department.

Susno denied the bailout case was not prioritized during his time because of intervention by other parties.

"The chief detective has full authority to decide what is to be prioritized in criminal investigations of a certain case," he said.

He admitted however that the funds used for bailing out Bank Century belonged to he state but he did not know the names of the parties to which the money had gone.

Susno also denied having submitted a written testimony to the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee in connection with the Bank Century bailout case, saying what should be cosidered as his testimony to the committee were his oral statements made under oath.

He said the written statement was not a testimony but mere supporting data for the committee as they were part of the draft of a book he was writing.

Some committee members earlier disclosed Susno had said there had been intervention in the police's investigation into the Bank Century case.***
