NINE INDUSTRIAL SECTORS TO ENJOY GOVT-PAID IMPORT DUTIES FACILITY
Jakarta, Feb 3 (ANTARA) - A total of nine industrial sectors will enjoy a Government-paid Import Duties (BMDTP) facility to help them survive under the Asean-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) which came into force last January 1, an industry official said.
"Initially 12 industrial sectors were eligible for the facility but the number has been reduced to nine only," Dedy Mulyadi, head of the Industry Ministry's Industrial Research and Development Agency, said here Wednesday.
He said the three industrial sectors that had been scrapped from the list proved not have been contributing much by their import duty payments.
The nine eligible industrial sectors are electronic components, automotive parts, telematics components equipment, sorbitol, carpet chemicals, plastic packaging raw materials, heavy-duty equipment, marine components, and power plant components.
"Currently, a Finance Minister's regulation to give the BMOTP facility to the nine industrial sectors is being prepared," process," Mulyadi said.
The regulation which was expected to be issued by the end of this month would also mention the amount of import duties the government would shoulder for the selected industrial sectors in 2010, namely Rp1.2 trillion, he said.
With the early issuance of the Finance Minister's regulation, the nine selected industrial sectors were expected to absorb the BMDTP facility for 2010 completely or 100 percent, he said.
In 2008, only 24 percent of the BMDTP facility was absorbed because the relevant Finance Minister's regulation was only issued in July, he said.***
