MASEU HOPES GOVT WILL GO AHEAD WITH CRACKDOWN ON FOREIGN WORKERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Airline System Employees
Union (MASEU) Wednesday urged the Home Ministry to go ahead with crackdown
operations on foreign workers as scheduled (Feb 15).

Its executive secretary Mustafar Maarof said the Home Ministry should stick
to its original plan on the date for the implementation of the crackdown and not
compromise with employers and industries who were seeking a postponement.

"The government had given ample time since 2008 for them (employers) to
replace foreign workers with locals, but it fell into deaf ears," he said in
a statement Wednesday.

Mustafar said requests made by employers, industries and operators should
not be entertained and there was no such thing as the decision by the
immigration being inappropriate and unfriendly as claimed by them," he added.
