NATIONAL DEMOCRATS SHOULD THINK OF PEOPLE`S FATE : GOLKAR POLITICIAN

Jakarta, Feb 4 (ANTARA) - The newly declared National Democrat organization is expected to think of the state and nation's interest, especially the people's fate, senior Golkar politician Pinantun Hutasoit said here on Thursday.

"If the National Democrats want to make significant breakthroughs in relation with the solution of various problems in the country, they should prioritize the state and nation's interests, especially the fate of the people at large," Hutasoit said.

He said the nation at present was in desperate need of significant breakthroughs to get out of its acute problems in the fields of politics, economy, law, and people's welfare.

But the former member of Golkar Advisory Board wondered if the National Democrats would later become a political party, or be able to pave the way for legislation to make radical breakthroughs.

"To create new breakthroughs toward improvement, we must refer to the preamble of 1945 Constitution and the state philosophy of Pancasila which call for democracy guided by the wisdom of representative deliberations," Hutasoit said.

He expressed hope that the National Democrats would not eventually transform themselves into a political party.

"I would not favor the emergence of a new political party because in my view, Golkar still has a great potential to be a powerful party," he said, noting that most of the founding National Democrats and their supporters were from the Golkar Party.

Hutasoit said Golkar in the years to come would be the greatest party if it was supported by all elements of the public grouped in the party, because to form a political party, according to him, was not easy.

"I understand the feelings of my friends who have founded and supported the National Democrat organization because most of them are Golkar figures and cadres," Hutasoit said.

He added it would be more honorable if the National Democrats dedicate themselves to the state's, nation's, and people's interests.***
