Iranian cleric urges officials to treat people kindly

TEHRAN, Feb. 5 (MNA) – Tehran Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani called on officials to treat people kindly.
The remarks by the cleric came as Iranians are preparing to hold rallies to mark the Bahman 22, a day marking the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. The day falls on February 11.
Addressing officials, he said, “Be on the people’s side, be kind to people. Of course the enemies should be treated differently, but the ordinary people don’t seek hostility.”
Bahman 22 is a gift from God and “we should preserve” it, he noted.
He went on to say that if some people seek to damage the dignity of this day by chanting improper slogans and doing inappropriate actions, they should know they should account for their actions in front of God, Imam Khomeini, and the martyrs.
The senior cleric also emphasized that people should respect all political figures who attend the demonstrations.
Pointing to the December 30 demonstrations in which some demonstrators chanted slogans against some figures, he called on the people to maintain unity and avoid shouting derogatory slogans.
“This is the advice of dear Imam throughout his precious life and is also the Supreme Leader’s advice,” he noted.
On the current issues facing the country, he stated all movements should be in line with the Constitution drafted by the key revolutionary figures.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Emami-Kashani pointed to Iran’s recent scientific achievements, saying the Islamic Revolution paved the way for scientific and technological developments in the country.
“Today we aim to conquer the space, we launch exploring rockets and satellites, and we have made many military achievements,” he explained.
The Supreme Leader in a meeting with academics has stated that the universities should try to promote their position to the highest international level, he added.
