WIRANTO REELECTED HANURA PARTY LEADER BY ACCLAMATION

Surabaya, Indonesia, Feb 6 (ANTARA) - Delegates to the first People's Conscience (Hanura) Party national conference here by acclamation reelected Wiranto as party leader for the next five years.

Originally, the conference participants were scheduled on Saturday evening to meet in plenary to elect a party chairman by casting votes. But delegates from the party's provincial and district branches from throghout the country eventually asked the meeting's chair to skip the voting process and just declare Wiranto reelected.

As nobody at the meeting raised any objections, the chair which was held by Karim Hanggi, leader of Hanura Party's Central Sulawesi chapter, then issued a formal statement declaring Wiranto reelected by acclamation.

After the declaration, which took place in the ballroom of the Shangri-la Hotel here, all conference participants rose and took turns to congratulate retired general Wiranto.

Meanwhile, Abdilla Fauzi Achmad, a Hanura Party associate chairman and leader of the Hanura faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), said after Wiranto's reelection, the party's leadership would design its strategy for participation in the general elections in 2014.

Hanura now had a total of 907 members in the country's central and regional legislatures and its strategy for 2014 obviously was how to increase the number.

"We hope with Wiranto's reelection we will be able to set higher but still realistic vote-winning targets," he said. ***
