LANDSLIDE, FLOOD IN SUKABUMI DAMAGE 23 HOUSES

Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, Feb 6 (ANTARA) - Some 23 houses in Margaluyu and Cicukang villages, Sukabumi district, are damaged due to a landslide and flood that hit the area last Friday (Feb 5).

According to information received here on Saturday, the Friday flood happened due to incessant rains in Sukabumi district since Friday (Feb 5) afternoon.

The rains caused the Cibeuning river to overflow creating the flood that hit several villages and tens of hectares of paddy fields.

According to data from Sukabumi's Social Office, 23 houses were damaged , seven moderately and 22 slightly. The Friday landslide inundated 3.25 hectares of local people's plantation.

"So far, there have been no reports of casualties. Related authorities are still counting the material losses due to the disaster," official from Sukabumi's Social Office, Tita Juwita, said.

Sukabumi's Coordinator for Disaster Management team, Iwan, said there are 13 houses in Margaluyu village prone to be hit by landslide. He also added there were two district roads cut off by the landslide.

The landslide and flood from Cibeuning river also hit other villages in Sukabumi, namely Purabaya and Neglasari.***
