WHIRLWIND HITS TENS OF HOUSES IN BANJARNEGARA

Banjarnegara, Central Java, Feb. 8(ANTARA) - At least 50 houses were damaged by a whirlwind in Susukan and Klampok sub districts, Banjarnegara District, Central java, on Sunday evening.

The whirlwind, accompanied by heavy rain, hit Karangjati and Derpa villages, in Susukan sub district and a part of Klampok sub district on Sunday evening, said Dwi Suryanto, a local official of the Banjarnegara district administration here on Monday.

One house was levelled to the ground and 49 others were seriously or lightly damaged by the whirlwind at Susukan, he said. A number of trees at Susukan and Klampok were also uprooted by the strong wind.

Military and police personnel with the assistance of local villagers were on Monday helping the victims repair their damaged houses.
