OIL CONTRACTORS' OUTPUT EXPECTED TO REACH 965,000 BPD
Bojonegoro, Feb 8 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's national production of oil is expected to reach 965,000 barrels per day in 2010 from 65 production sharing contractors, a BP Migas oficial said.
"We must be optimistic the target will be achieved," Amir Hamzah, the head of the internal division of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency, said.
He said nationally oil production in 2009 was expected to reach 949,200 barels per day from 65 production sharing contractors.
Most of the production came from Indonesia's western regions from Sumatra to Java including the Sukowati and Cepu oil fields in Bojonegoro, he said.
He said national oil production was hindered by various natural disasters in 2009 making it to reach only 944,000 barrels per day.
"To reach the national target for 2010 repairs will be carried out on various production facilities damaged by disasters," he said.
He said a total of 232 production sharing contractors are registered in the country but only 65 of them are producing. The others are still trying to find potential oil reserves.
"They are scattered across the country and are still looking for oil deposits," he said.
Amir Hamzah said the disasters that occurred in the oil and gas industry had to be dealt with wisely because protenitial reserves in Indonesia are not increasing while the population is growing and therefore the oil industry must be able to live side by side with the community.
As an example he referred to the case in the US and China where oil industries are also found located in busy areas. "Ideally they must be away from residential areas but the fact is that population continues to grow," he said.
"What is clear is working based on standards are difficult in the oil and gas industry," he said.
So, the incident of Hydrogen Sulfid poisoning in the Sukowati and Cepu fields is still considered normal, he said.
He said security standards must always be observed based upon environmental analysis for oil industry management in Bojonegoro. "The environmental analysis must always be renewed because the population in the area keeps growing," he said.
