Iran unveils domestically made airplane

TEHRAN, Feb. 8 (MNA) -- Iran has unveiled its first domestically manufactured single passenger two-engine airplane.
The 75-kilogram Faez airplane can carry up to 100 kilograms and can fly at a speed of 220 kilometers per hour, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi told reporters on Monday.
A parachute attached to the airplane helps it descend in an emergency, the aircraft can be assembled in less than five minutes, extra fuel tanks can be attached to the plane’s body and wings in order to increase its fuel capacity, it is easy to transport, and it will be sold at a cheap price for private use, Vahidi explained.
The airplane is able to land both on water and land, can carry out patrol missions, and can be used for sports and entertainment purposes, he added.
The fist test pilot of the aircraft, Captain Ali Yazdani, said the airplane can fly for six hours non-stop at an altitude of 16,000 feet.
The airplane needs a 100-meter airstrip to take off and a 150-meter airstrip to land, he added.
The aircraft will be sold at a price of between 40,000 and 50,000 dollars for private use, he stated.
Vahidi also inaugurated two production lines for manufacturing drone aircraft with reconnaissance and attack capabilities.
He said the unmanned aircraft, named the Ra’d (thunder) and the Nazir (herald), would be able to carry out surveillance as well as offensive tasks over a long range with high precision.
