Armenia president to discuss coop'n with UK in London.
YEREVAN, February 9 (Itar-Tass) - Armenian President Serge Sargsyan
begins a three-day working visit to Britain on Tuesday. He will focus on
matters concerning Armenian-British political and economic cooperation.
Garegin the Second, Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church -- Supreme
Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, Foreign Minister Edward
Nalbandyan, and Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan will leave for London
together with the Head of State, a presidential press service official has
told Itar-Tass.
A meeting between the President of Armenia and Queen Elizabeth II is
to take place in Buckingham Palace. Sargsyan at his residence is to
receive British Foreign Secretary David Milliband and meet with Prince
Charles of Wales.
In Windsor Palace, the President will be present at a reception and a
concert dedicated to the "Yerevan, My Love!" project, of which Prince
Charles and Armenia's ex-Premier (1996-'97) Armen Sarkisyan were the
initiators.
The President is to meet with members of the Armenian diaspora from a
number of countries, who will arrive in London in view of the launch of
the project, within the framework of which four historico-architectural
monuments in downtown Yerevan are to be restored.
On February 10, Sargsyan is to deliver a lecture at the London Royal
Institute for International Relations. In the lecture, he will touch upon
the problem of regional security, the normalization of relations with
Turkey, and negotiations on a settlement of the conflict over Karabakh.
At London's Tate Modern museum of arts, Sargsyan will attend the
opening of an exhibition dedicated to the life and creative activity of
Arshile Gorky (Vostanik Adoyan, 1904-'48), an outstanding American painter
of Armenian descent, one of the founders of abstract expressionism.
.Ukraine's BYUT to press for a third round of pres election.
KIEV, February 9 (Itar-Tass) - The Bloc of Yulia Timoshenko (BYUT) is
prepared "to do everything to secure that a third round" of the
presidential elections is held, Sergei Mishchenko, a Member of Parliament
from BYUT, told journalists on Tuesday. "The gap between the candidates is
smaller than the scope of falsifications in (electoral) districts," he
said.
Oleg Lyashko, an MP from BYUT, said one could question about 1.5
million votes. "At the same time, the vote gap between the candidates was
800,000 votes," he said.
At a meeting of the BYUT faction on Monday, Andrei Portnov was put in
charge of efforts to uphold the positions of presidential candidate Yulia
Timoshenko in law-courts. Those present at the faction meeting, which was
attended by Yulia Timoshenko, decided to go all the way. The main task now
is to uphold (electoral) win in law-courts," a spokesman for the faction
told journalists. In so doing, the MP added that "All those present at
the BYUT faction meeting came to feel that Portnov was lacking particular
enthusiasm. However, we shall press for the holding of a third round of
the elections".
.RF first Internet safety forum to open in Moscow Tue.
MOSCOW, February 9 (Itar-Tass) - A forum, dedicated to the creation of
an ethical and safe World Wide Web, is to be held in Moscow on Tuesday, on
the International Day of Internet Safety. The forum has been organized by
the Russian Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, and the
Organizing Committee of the Internet Safety Year in Russia.
An official at the Communications Ministry has told Itar-Tass that
participants in the forum will discuss a rise in the level of Internet
safety to children, estimates of the results of comprehensive
psychological and sociological research, as well as the combining of the
efforts of the professional Internet community to protect the rising
generation in the World Wide Web.
The Ministry analysts believe that "This is Russia's first forum
dealing with one of the most important problems of the development of
information society. Panel and roundtable meetings will deal with
prospects, new strategies and technologies for solving the problem of
creating an ethical and safe Internet environment for the rising
generations".
A public agreement on principles for the safety of children and young
people in the Internet is to be discussed and signed within the framework
of the forum, which will be attended by the Communications Ministry
leadership, by Boris Miroshnichenko, head of the Interior Ministry Bureau
for Special Technical Measures, Mikhail Grishankov, First Deputy Chairman
of the Committee on Security of the State Duma lower house of parliament,
Vladimir Miklushevsky, Deputy Minister of Education and Science,
Academician Yevgeny Velikhov, president of the Russian "Kurchatov
Institute" research center, and Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow State
University.
A ceremony is to be held to present awards to participants in the
social advertising competition, and in Interneshka and My Safety Net
contests.
