SAILORS FROM SIX COUNTRIES TO TRAIN TOGETHER IN LANGKAWI

LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Sailors from six countries will
train together at the National Sailing Training Centre here for nine days from
this Friday in preparation for the 2010 Asian Games.

Malaysian Yachting Association general manager Mohd Afendy Abdullah said the
countries involved were Poland, India, Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore and
Malaysia.

He said besides the theory course held at the training centre, the 40
sailors from these countries would also undergo training in the waters nearby.

Mohd Afendy said the availability of a modern training facility complete
with accommodation was among the factors that made several foreign countries
choose Langkawi for training of their national sailors.

He said before this, sailors from Korea and Iran had joint training in
Langkawi after participating in the recent international regatta here.

Mohd Afendy said the training was in preparation for the 2010 Asian Games in
China in November and IODA World Sailing Championship in Langkawi in December.

Langkawi, known as the Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Permata Kedah[1]) is
an archipelago of 99 islands, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern
Malaysia.
