GOVERNMENT IN 100 DAYS

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ The headed by S.Batbold cabinet of ministers greeted Wednesday its 100th day since the establishment of the government. A report on the 100-day works was given by the Premier to the media. Present were Ch.Khurelbaatar MP, a head of the Cabinet Secretariat of the government; L.Gansukh, the Minister of Environment and Tourism; D.Zorigt, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy; T.Gandi, the Minister of Social Welfare and Labor; T.Badamjunai, the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry; L.Bold, the Defense Minister, and some vice ministers.
According to Ch.Khurelbaatar, the current cabinet is continuing activities of the previous governments and is creating new ideas, works and is realizing them.
First day of the establishment of the news cabinet, the Prime Minister S.Batbold raised new concepts on providing every person with job, education, increasing competitive capacity of tax, law and investments, manufacturing final products, renewing structure of all stages of education, obeying laws and on introducing responsibility system, and announced his motto “Together we can”.
The Premier's successful works were appreciated by his counterparts of Russia, China, USA, Germany, Japan, UK, the Republic of Korea, India and of other countries, he said. Addressing the educational sphere officials he told that he will more promote this sector rather than the mining sector. The Premier announced that he intends to introduce the Standard of Cambridge in the educational sector of Mongolia with aim to set up internationally accepted education. He said the government intends to decrease number of universities and institutes by unifying them and to increase number of vocational training centers. The aim is put to develop the higher education in a way of introducing the campus-style as well.
The State Great Khural approved a draft law on the Human Development Fund for granting benefits to people and changing the duplicated system of social welfare.
Mongolia's government raised a goal to bring its mineral resources to the world market after saying “Capital market is lever of development”.
Works started under initiative of developing the green economy and implementing projects called “Green permission” and “Products with green seals”. Moreover, proposals were developed to strengthen system of Mongolia's democracy and to promote form of civil society on occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Democratic Revolution of Mongolia.
The U.S Millennium Challenge Corporation made a decision to implement a project with financing of USD 188 million in Mongolia.
In a view of putting into use deposits of uranium, the cabinet put forward a proposal to create certain financial resources from the international capital market, and started some measures.
Related officials were ordered to bring the health sphere of Mongolia into international standards, and to reform system of Ulaanbaatar city's hospitals.
The government announced the year 2010 as the year of “Reform of business environment”. In addition, it started discussing matters on improving the registration system and carrying out a renewed civil registration in 2010.
A working group started to decrease prices of hay and fodder for herders in accordance with a governmental decision.
Related officials were ordered to work out a general plan for development for Ulaanbaatar city until 2030.
A regulation was issued to consider and make decisions on governmental agendas through public discussions.
Tariffs were introduced for all types of communication not depending on geographical positions. Additionally, a decision was made to decrease four times the tariff of Internet service in order to provide the public with this service.
An order was issued to realize a project named “Ulaanbaatar city without smoke” in order to take a complex measure for reducing smoke.
Under an initiative of increasing number of Mongolian students studying in USA, a Mongolia-America joint foundation was set up by expanding the Fulbright project with 50:50 financing.
Officials were ordered to create residences for local citizens and patients at the biggest hospitals and to introduce the above standard at new hospitals to be erected in the future.
Initiated by some MPs, a national program named “Mongolian livestock” was supported. In addition, a donation campaign started called “Let's help herders” to render assistance to aimags in bad situation due to extreme cold weather. In frames of this campaign, relief goods amounting MNT one billion and 404 million went to them.
A proposal was issued to operate the Tavan tolgoi deposit with 100 per cent state-ownership.
Economic Forum of Mongolia was held for the first time. It discussed issues on mining, capital market, state competitiveness, registration system, environment, “green economy” and reform of budget.
