INDIA ANNOUNCES US$10-MLN GRANT FOR PALESTINE
NEW DELHI, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- India has extended a US$10-million (RM35
million) grant for Palestine and wants the Arab Peace Plan to move ahead soon,
to help resolve the world's oldest conflict.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conveyed his government's commitment to
visiting Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas, who was
in Delhi for a brief visit yesterday.
Abbas, on his part, provided an update on the latest developments in the
peace process in West Asia and thanked India for its consistent political and
material support to Palestine.
India, in a statement from the External Affairs Ministry, reiterated its
support for the Arab Peace Plan and urged concerted action for achieving a
durable, just and comprehensive settlement of the conflict.
"(India's) commitment to the Palestinian cause is in line with our support
for United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338," said the
statement.
Abbas' next stop will be Islamabad, Pakistan, later Friday. He had visited
Bangladesh before arriving in the Indian capital.
