MATARAM CITY CITED FOR BEST PUBLIC SERVICES

Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, Feb 12 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has awarded a trophy to Mataram City Mayor H. Moh. Ruslan for having made public services in his region the best in the country.

"Mataram City Mayor H. Moh. Ruslan has gone to Jakarta to receive the 'Citra Bakti Abdi Negara' Trophy from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono today," Mataram City administration spokesman M. Alwi said.

Speaking to reporters here Friday, M. Alwi said the trophy was the 45th award the Mataram City government had so far received from the central government for its high achievements in various sectors.

Among the awards the city government had received over the past few years were for its achievements in health, education, and tourism, he said.

The Citra Bakti Abdi Negara Trophy was also awarded by the head of state to 41 other districts/cities all over the country.

Besides the West Nusa Tenggara provincial capital of Mataram, the Bima district government also received the same award, he said.

M. Alwi said the central government had previously awarded his city for its serious attention to educational development as shown by the city government's annual budget for education.

The annual budget for education reached 30 percent or above the national figure of only 20 percent, he said.

As a result of the city government's serious attention, Mataram had more junior and senior high schools with international standards than any other regencies in West Nusa Tenggara, he said.

Among the schools were Mataram I State Senior High School, Mataram VI State Junior High School and Mataram II State Junior High School, M. Alwi said.***
