12/2 Tass 324

BANGKOK, February 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The Kazakh Embassy to Thailand
confirmed that the Il-76 crew flied for the homeland, a diplomatic source
told Itar-Tass on Friday.

The pilots were sent to the homeland by a
passenger flight. The Kazakh air company makes Bangkok-Almaty flights.
The Il-76 crew was released after the Thai Prosecutor General's Office
had announced the decision not to institute a criminal case versus the
pilots.
Four Kazakh citizens and a Belarusian citizen were released after the
ruling made by the Thai Prosecutor General's Office.
The Il-76, which belongs to the Georgian air company Air Georgia and
was en route from North Korea, has made a landing for refueling in Bangkok
on December 11, 2009. The Thai authorities under UN Security Council
Resolution 1874 examined the cargoes and stated that several tonnes of
weapons had been found aboard the plane. The pilots were charged with
illegal weapons storage and giving the false evidence to the Thai
authorities on cargo supplies. The crew did not plead guilty, and the
pilots emphasized that it was completely unexpected for them that weapons
were delivered aboard the vessel instead of "mechanical parts."
The weapons supplies were confiscated and sent to a military base in
the Nakhon Sawan Province. The UN Security Council instructed to destroy
the weapons supplies later.
