FLASH FLOOD STRIKES BOJONEGORO

Bojonegoro, Feb 13 (ANTARA) - Flash floods engulfed Tawaran hamlet, Napis village, Tambakrejo sub district, Bojonegoro, East Java, Friday at 10 pm local time, seriously damaging a number of houses.

"We are still collecting data on the victims in Tambakrejo," head of the Bojonegoro Disaster Agency Kasiyanto said Saturday.

He said the flash flood was triggered by the overflowing of Gandong river, a branch of the Bengawan Solo.

"The flash flood lasted for about two hours," he said. Kasiyanto and a rescue team from Tambakrejo are heading to the disaster site in Napis village some seven kilometers from Tambakrejo subdistrict.

The flash flood was triggered primarily by three hours of heavy rain, causing Gandong to overflow.

However there have been no reports on fatalities.
