First e-shop for prisoners opens in Altai.

BARNAUL, the Altai territory, February 14 (Itar-Tass) - The first
Internet shop for prisoners has opened in Russia's Altai territory. The
resource is financed by the regional department of the Federal Service for
the Implementation of Punishments.
The e-shop is supposed to make life easier for the relatives of
convicts. They will no longer have to exhaust themselves searching for
foodstuffs, allowed to be handed over as parcels.
The e-shop offers foods like tea, cigarettes, sweets and dairy
products. Apart from staple foods the price list also includes delicacies
like red caviar. An order can be paid either through bank or by mail. The
e-shop employees will deliver parcels to the final destination under
vigilant control of workers of the Federal Service for the Implementation
of Punishments.
"The e-shop has a wide selection of goods but the prices are a bit
higher than in ordinary supermarkets," says Vasily Karkavin, the press
service chief of the regional department of the Federal Service for the
Implementation of Punishments.
So far, the relatives of convicts of just one prison in the Altai
territory can have access to the e-shop. But other correctional facilities
will also be connected to the Internet resource if the experiment succeeds
and this kind of service really becomes popular.
