INDONESIAN STOCKS TRADE SLIGHTLY HIGHER ON MINING GAINS
Jakarta, Feb. 16 (ANTARA)- The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Tuesday morning got off to a strong start as investors grabbed mining company Bumi and Antam shares.
The BEI index went up 2.40 points or 0.11 percent to 2,520.217 points and the LQ-45 index rose 0.420 point or 0.09 percent 489.317 points.
Bumi shares at the BEI rose Rp25 to Rp,250, prompting total transactions reached 4.4 million shares in volume worth Rp9.78 billion, according to Krisna Dwi Setiawan, a research analyst of PT Valbury Asia Securities.
Antam shares climbed Rp25 to Rp2,025 with a total transaction volume amounting to 3.7 million worth Rp7.5 billion.
Other top gainers were Astra shares that surged Rp100 to Rp35,050, Astra Agro Lestari shares that rose Rp300 to Rp24,000 and United Tractor shares that went up Rp150 to Rp16,100.
He believed that foreign investors still considered Indonesia potential market in Asia.
Meanwhile, the rupiah strengthened 15 points against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Tuesday morning.
The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,330-Rp9,340 per US dollar, up 15 points from Rp9,345-Rp9,355 per US dollar at the market's close a day earlier.
