SURAMADU BRIDGE EQUIPPED WITH SHMS TECHNOLOGY
Surabaya, E Java, Feb 16 (ANTARA) - The Surabaya-Madura (Suramadu) bridge measuring more than 5 kilometers in East Java has been equipped with the Structural Health Monitoring System or SHMS to monitor the weather condition in its vicinity.
Head of the Central Suramadu Bridge work unit, Atiyanto Busono, said here on Tuesday that the SHMS was installed at the Madura area of Bangkalan District.
The longest bridge in South-East Asia region which has been used since last year, connects Surabaya, capital of East Java province with Madura Island which is also part of East Java province.
"SHMS is a part of new technology used to detect damage to the method of integrating system with the structure of the bridge infrastructure," he said.
In addition, SHMS reported every development simultaneously about the bridge structure from the influence of internal and external bridges, such as weather conditions and geological phenomena.
The SHMS is also able to monitor and oversee the operation of the bridge to serve traffic and can be used as study material for the development of science.
