CENTURY BANK INQUIRY COMMITTEE FORMS SMALL TEAM

Jakarta, Feb 12 (ANTARA) - The House committee investigating the Bank Century bailout will form a small team to formulate the final results of its work, the committee's vice chairman, Gayus Lumbuun, said here Tuesday.

He said the team was expected to be formed later in the day with members to be divided proportionately among the nine factions in the committee.

"The number of its members will depend on the number of seats of each faction in the committee," he said.

Gayus, a member of the Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP), said after it was set up it was expected to work immediately to formulate the framework of the committee's final report.

He said the team would work until Saturday and the result of its work would be discussed at a consultative meeting on Monday.

Based upon the agreement of committee members the final report of the committee would be submitted to a plenary session of the committee on Wednesday.

Another committee vice chairman, Mahfud Sidq from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), said the team was estimated to have 15 members, based on the agreement of committee members.

Asked about his faction's stance, Gayus said that its final say would not be different from the initial one that had been presented before.

He said it would even add more facts following its findings in the field investigation recently.

In its initial view PDIP concluded that four institutions should be held responsible for the irregularities in the case, namely the central bank, the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK), the Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS) and the Financial Commitee (KK).

Mahfud Sidiq also said that his faction's final say would be the same as the initial one.

Only two of the nine factions in the committee considered the government's decision to inject Rp6.7 trillion to save the Century Bank to prevent national economic upheaval in the midst of global financial crisis in 2008 as correct, namely the Democratic Party (PD) and the Nation's Awakening Party (PKB).
