BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIOINFORMATICS

Baku, 24 June, (AzerTAj)- International conference “Bioinformatics: Current Progress and Practical Applications� dedicated to the 80th jubilee of academician Jalal Aliyev today has begun in Baku.

The event was organized by the Committee on Sciences and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) in the members states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference
(OIC), Azerbaijani Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies, Pakistani
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

The conference is aimed to introduce the subject of bioinformatics and to support
activities in this field. Academician Jalal Aliyev is the initiator of the
bioinformatics research in Azerbaijan over 30 years.

The speakers at the event were Azerbaijani Minister of Communication and
Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, COMTECH coordinator Dr. Anwar Nasim, member
of the Royal Holloway, University of London Dr. Victor Solovyev,
Dr. Ilham Shahmuradov from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Dr. Asaf
Salamov from US DOE Joint Genome Institute, Dr. Alexander Kel, Biobase GmbH, Germany
and other scientists. The event will end on June 28.
