South Korea students attacked in Altai territory
BARNAUL, February 16 (Itar-Tass) - Unidentified offenders attacked two
South Korean students, who arrive in the Altai Territory under student
exchanges, in downtown Barnaul. A student was brought to the intensive
therapy ward in grave condition, the Altai territorial police told
Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
The students were attacked on Monday evening. "After a party at the
sushi bar the students - a young man and a young woman - came out in the
street, where, according to the preliminary reports, three unidentified
offenders attacked them," spokeswoman for the territorial police Svetlana
Lyapunova said. In the attack the young man sustained grave knife wounds
and was hospitalized. The young woman got light injuries; the medical aid
was given to her on the spot.
"The identity kits of the criminals are known. The search operation
for them is underway. The law enforcement agencies are investigating a
theory that the attack was committed out of ethnic strife," Lyapunova said.
The students from South Korea were passing training courses at the
Altai State Pedagogical Academy.
