MINISTER DESIGNS BLUE REVOLUTION TO BOOST FISH PRODUCTION
Jakarta, Feb 17 (ANTARA) - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad designs a Blue Revolution to step up fish production, fishermen's income, and fish cultivation.
"Therefore the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry will spearhead fish cultivation to step up national fish production," Fadel Muhammad said as he gave directives to the participants of a National Working Meeting here on Wednesday.
He said the Blue Revolution was a mindset revolution to see and response to economic opportunity with a maritime approach.
The minister designs the revolution through several steps to strengthen integrated human resources development, to manage maritime fishery resources continually, and to improve productivity and competitiveness on the basis of knowledge.
Fadel added that every effort would be made to expand both domestic and international market access for fish products.
"We have a great potential to step up our national fish production and therefore we have to design it well," the maritime affairs and fisheries minister said.
National fish production in 2009 reached 10.65 million tons and from 2010 to 2014 it is projected to reach 10.75 million tons to 22.39 million tons.
Fadel said the national fishery fleet will also be restructured to anable it to operate in exclusive economic zones. ***
