INDONESIAN STOCKS TRADE HIGHER ON STRONG WALL STREET RALLY

Jakarta, Feb. 17 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Wednesday morning opened higher as Wall Street significantly rallied.

The BEI index rose 0.58 percent or 15.112 points to 2.573,617 and the LQ-45 index climbed 3.748 points or 0.75 percent to 502.164 points.

The Indonesians stocks might continue to move upward in the morning trading session, as foreign investors were less worried over the Greek debt crisis, according to Alfiansyah, a a foreign exchange analyst of PT Sinarmas Securities.

Member countries of the European Union (EU) are willing to assist Greece which is currently facing financial crisis.

"We are optimistic that the European Union's financial aid will help Greece deal with its financial problem," he said.

Among top gainers at the BEI included Bumi shares which climbed Rp75 to Rp2,400. A total of 134.9 million Bumi shares worth Rp325.5 billion were sold. Antam shares rose Rp25 to Rp2,125 per share, and were sold at total volume of 31.95 million worth Rp67.78 billion.

Indo Tambang Mega shares surged Rp450 to Rp31,400, Astra International shares rose Rp200 to Rp35,950, and Astra Agro Lestari shares added Rp400 to Rp24,300.***
