YO.OTGONBAYAR VISITS UNESCO AND GERMAN UNIVERSITY
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Minister of Education, Culture and Science Yo.Otgonbayar attended a meeting of the Leading Board of the Partnership of Achieving Results Initiative that was held February 11-12 in the UNESCO headquarters, Paris, France. This meeting discussed issues of enhancing the efficiency of assistance to the partnership's members and refining upon the structure and system of rendering assistance.
In frames of the partnership, Mongolia has receives non-refundable aid of USD 29.8 million. During the stay in France, the Minister held an official meeting with Mrs Irina Bokova, the UNESCO Director-General, and considered issues of listing the khoomii (throat singing), one of the Mongolian intangible cultural heritage, in the World Heritage Centre. Bokova promised to pay an attention to the matter and to send to Mongolia the world cultural heritages experts.
On February 13, the Minister visited the University of Freiburg in Germany. He signed a memorandum on introducing the curriculum of the Freiburg University in the Mongolia's University of Science and Technology (MUST) on mining engineering and technologies. In accordance with the memorandum, the MUST's students are provided with an opportunity to study the curriculum of the Freiburg in Mongolia and Germany and to have diplomas of both the universities.
The Minister Otgonbayar met with Christian Boud, a head of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). They agreed to co-finance the scholarships of bachelor and master degrees for 30-40 Mongolian students to study in Germany's universities and institutes, every year. The sides agreed to establish a related cooperation memorandum in the near future and to start sending Mongolian students to Germany from this year.
