Rafsanjani calls for expansion of ties between Tehran, Khartoum

Tehran, June 24, IRNA - Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Monday called for expansion of ties between Tehran and Khartoum.


Rafsanjani made the remarks in a meeting with Sudanese Ambassador to
Tehran Abdullah al-Bashir.

Referring to historical and excellent ties between the two countries,
Rafsanjani said Sudan enjoys high capabilities in agriculture as well
as mineral and water resources and expansion of bilateral cooperation
would be to the benefit of both sides.

On significant role of Sudan among Islamic countries, he said Tehran
calls for continued ties with Sudan, the Islamic and African countries.

The enemies try to isolate the developing countries through hatching
various plots, he said adding that unity among World Muslims and
convergence among Islamic states could help thwart these plots, he said.

The Sudanese ambassador, for his part, voiced satisfaction with the
current level of political ties between the two countries.

He said Iran and Sudan are committed to Islam have always tolerated
pressures exerted by the west.

Sudan can play a brilliant role in broadening ties between Iran and
Africa which could be regarded as a model for regional cooperation, he
said.

Referring to increasing threats posed by Israel to Iran, he strongly
condemned the west double-standard policy to this end and said the
west has kept silent on the issue but if the case was vice versa, it
would have triggered massive prorogation.
