RI, MALAYSIA DISCUSS BORDER ISSUES IN KUALA LUMPUR
Jakarta, Feb 18 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Malaysia were on Thursday scheduled to hold the 38th meeting of their General Border Committee (GBC Malindo) in Kuala Lumpur to discuss land border issues.
The meeting was to be officially opened by Malaysian Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi and his Indonesian counterpart, Purnomo Yusgiantoro.
"The meeting will evaluate the cooperation between the related authorities of the two countries over the past year," Purnomo Yusgiantoro said here on Thursday.
At the GBC Malindo's 37th meeting in Jakarta in 2008, Indonesia emphasized the importance of the two countries continuing to evaluate and improve their surveillance systems in border areas to handle possible border problems in the future.
Indonesia at the time also expressed hope social-economic cooperation between the two countries would be strengthened further in order to improve the lives of the people living near their borders.
