BEIJING, February 18 (Itar-Tass) -- The length of operating high-speed
railways in China has exceeded 3,300 kilometers, which enabled the country
to occupy the leading place in the world both by their length and
technical equipment, the Chinese Ministry of Railways reported on Thursday.

In 2009, China put into operation two main lines - - Huan-Guangzhou
and Zhengzhou-Xiang where trains can pick up speed of up to 350 kilometers
per hour. Earlier, Beijing and Tianjin, Shijiazhuang and Taiyuan, Qingdao
and Jinan, Hefei and Nangkying were connected by such railways, a report
put on the ministry's official site says. At present, a high-speed railway
Beijing-Shanghai with a length of 1,318 kilometers is being built. After
the completion of the construction scheduled for 2013, it will possible to
get from one megapolis to another in five hours instead of present 12
hours.
The total length of China's railways amounts to 86,000 kilometers. In
2009, 1.53 billion passengers used their services. A total of 3.32 billion
