US NEVER INTERFERED IN ANWAR SODOMY TRIAL - ENVOY

ROMPIN (Malaysia), Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Ambassador to the United
States Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis said Thursday the United States government had never
interfered in the sodomy trial of People's Justice Party (Parti Keadilan Rakyat
- PKR) advisor Anwar Ibrahim.

he People's Justice Party (Malay: Parti Keadilan Rakyat, often known simply
as Keadilan) is a centrist political party in Malaysia formed in 2003 by a
merger of the National Justice Party and the older Malaysian People's Party.

The US government had never issued any statement calling for the charge
against Anwar to be dropped, he told reporters after launching an electricity
project in a village here.

Dr Jamaluddin was asked to comment on a statement by United States Senate
Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry calling for a fair trial for
Anwar.

Dr Jamaluddin said Kerry's statement did not reflect the stand of the White
House.
